Evaluation of the real-time earthquake information system in Japan

چکیده
[1] The real-time earthquake information system (REIS) of the Japanese seismic network is developed for automatically determining earthquake parameters within a few seconds after the P-waves arrive at the closest stations using both the P-wave arrival times and the timing data that P-waves have not yet arrived at other stations. REIS results play a fundamental role in the real-time information for earthquake early warning in Japan. We show the rapidity and accuracy of REIS from the analysis of 4,050 earthquakes in three years since 2005; 44 percent of the first reports are issued within 5 seconds after the first P-wave arrival and 80 percent of the events have a difference in epicenter distance less than 20 km relative to manually determined locations. We compared the formal catalog to the estimated magnitude from the real-time analysis and found that 94 percent of the events had a magnitude difference of ±1.0 unit. Citation: Nakamura, H., S. The Earthquake Early Warning System in southern Italy: Technologies, Methods and Performance Evaluation
A real-time seismic monitoring infrastructure has been recently installed and it is actually operating in southern Italy, whose main purposes are to rapidly issue an earthquake alert, to provide near-real-time maps of the peak ground motion and intensity shaking and to test the feasibility of earthquake early warning following moderate to large earthquakes occurring along the southern Apenninic...
متن کاملAn Agent-Based System to Minimize Earthquake-Induced Damages
Over 2000 earthquakes happen every year in Japan, so that this country is often called earthquake-ridden (Government of Japan, 2006). There exists a serious problem to prevent the occurrence of earthquake-induced disasters, such as fire, short-circuits, gas leakage, etc. With the recent advent of nation-wide telecommunication networks, real-time earthquake information can be received at every h...

Designing a Volunteer Geographic Information-based service for rapid earth quake damages estimation Introduction The advent of Web 2.0 enables the users to interact and prepare free unlimited real time data. This advantage leads us to exploit Volunteer Geographic Information (VGI) for real time crisis management. Traditional estimation methods for earthquake damages are expensive and tim...
متن کاملApplication of real‐time GPS to earthquake early warning
[1] We explore the use of real‐time high‐rate GPS displacement data for earthquake early warning using 1 Hz displacement waveforms from the April 4, 2010, Mw 7.2 El Mayor‐Cucapah earthquake. We compare these data to those provided by the broadband velocity and accelerometer instrumentation of the Southern California Seismic Network. The unique information provided by the GPS‐based displacement ...
متن کاملOptimization of two-stage production/inventory systems under order base stock policy with advance demand information
It is important to share demand information among the members in supply chains. In recent years, production and inventory systems with advance demand information (ADI) have been discussed, where advance demand information means the information of demand which the decision maker obtains before the corresponding actual demand arrives. Appropriate production and inventory control using demand info...
